5 Tips Parents can use to get Kids Eating Healthy Vegetables!
Kiddos are notoriously finicky eaters.
We can certainly use all the help we can get when it comes to getting kids to eat foods without creating a complete mess. As any parent knows its a long journey, with plenty of ups and down, and a lot of cleaning up lol.
Mealtimes are an important aspect of family life. Children begin to develop self-feeding skills from birth. Self-feeding is a very complex task and it is common for children to have difficulty using cutlery to feed themselves.
It usually takes until a child is 7 years old, before they can successfully use cutlery to feed themselves without being too messy.
The first point to note is that parents need to serve a variety of healthy foods and snacks. It takes a long time when kids are young to actually see results, the biggest change is often from 6 months to 14 months and its again very slow progress. To do this you need to Serve a variety of healthy foods and snacks. So with this keep a ready supply of fruit snacks to hand these include strawberries, bananas, blueberries and any othere easily snaked fruit.
The second point is parents require a huge amount of persistence. They do this by having Regular Meal Times. The only way kids start to learn how to eat food and use cutlery is through trial and error. Regular meal times peaks their appetite and helps them try food regularly.
Its also a key point that to set the right example you need to be a role model by eating healthy vegetables yourself. You can't serve kids vegetables and eat a macdonalds burger yourself, it sets a poor precedent for the child and doesn't encourage them to eat whats in front of them. So if you have healthy Veges that are much of the same of what the kids have infront of them. This said healthy vegies have so many benefits they reduce the risk and any heart related issues, they help stop heart disease, hlep reduce blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Thats just a few examples of why vegetables are so important to your household diet. The more you incorporate them into your diet the more healthier you are and your children.
Its also important to try avoid battles over food, and its common for the fussier child to try and change boundaries over the dinner table, by not eating certain things that they don't like. Its important to keep the consistency over the dinner table and the kids will try not work around the parents guidelines if it doesn't suit them. Be strong and be consistent!
The final point, and probably the most important is that its critical to involve kids in the decision making process. If this is actively encouraged and the kids do get involved, then they tend to enjoy their food a lot more. Thats the key to the whole process, happy child equals happy parent. Why does that sound earilly familiar lol.
